The colonel gazed at the three on the ground.
"Show me your faces," she ordered. Gamin immediately did as he was told. There were only three people who he respected greatly, the Head of Army, Colonel Anwamane, and his father. His father was in the front lines currently fighting the light, or so he was told. He wasn't sure whether he alive or dead since they hadn't had any news from the front lines as of yet. But Sanika was his fathers superior, just a few ranks below the Head of Army.
"C-Colonel! What a surp-"
"Silence!" Sanika cut him off sharply.
"You only speak when spoken to!"
Gamin quickly closed his mouth, taken aback by Colonel Anwamane's ferocity. Even though she was only a year older than him, Sanika outranked him greatly. It seemed that she put all her anger into her line of work after being forced to join the military at age 12. Due to this she quickly shot up the ranks in just a few years. Gamin stared blankly at Sanika, afraid to speak out of line again.

Aqua and Shanti lifted their faces up as the Colonel had ordered. Aqua could just barely hold back a giggle as she watched Gamin get so fidgety. Only at times like this did she get to see his "soft" side.
Aqua stared at the woman, wondering why she came in. Colonel Sanika had beautiful silver hair that seemed to flow down like a waterfall. It looked so strange up next to her dark cloak. She couldn't help wondering why the Dark and Light had to fight. The Colonel just looked like she would be a noble light resident, but, then again, the fact that the darkness that put out the sun on this land wasn't predicted. Even the best scholars didn't predict it. Now thanks to the "evil", everything had changed.
Aqua went off into space while thinking. When Shanti nudged her again, her face went red again as she realized that the Colonel was looking right at her.

"I heard you screaming at your group leader, Emontae. Would you like to explain that?"
Gamin looked at the colonel questioningly. Surly she couldn't have heard their conversation? He looked sidelong to Shikomi, who bowed his head confirming that he had delivered the message.
"Excuse my intrusion Ma'am."
Gamin lowered his head again as he started. Sanika turned her gaze to Gamin once more.
"Didn't I tell you to hold your tongue Nakota?"
Gamin flinched at her words.
"Y-yes Ma'am, but I was just toying with her and she became a little upset. It was nothing really."
Sanika looked amused at this.
"Toying....."
The colonel turned on her heels and strode out of the tent not saying anything more. Gamin lifted himself back up, a bit shaken.

Aqua's face still felt hot. She turned to Gamin.
"What was that about? You've never stood up for me!" She kept her voice down as turned to her side of the tent. She began to pack for the next day.
"Come on. We better get ready to leave..."

Gamin shrugged his shoulders.
"What can I say? I may respect her but that doesn't mean that I don't want her out of my hair. I wanted her gone."
He took a few breaths to get back to his normal self and lied back down on his bed.
"Don't count on it again though..." he mumbled before falling asleep soon afterwards.

A little bit a ways from the tent a centaur stood watching carefully. She winced in pain as blood dripped from what was now more of a dead weight than a useful leg. She was a messenger for light and was sent by the cousin of the princess to find and deliver a message to her. But along the way she had run into some hungry wild wolves. She was lucky to get away with her life even though it had the cost of her leg.
"Surly she can't be here with the Dark!" she cried to herself.
She twisted around to examine her wound. Her leg was still in tact but it had been torn up by the wolves. She was growing weaker by the second, but she had at least bandaged most of the wound to slow the loss of blood. Sweat dripped from her brow as she settled herself down, not without the accompaniment of an aching pain all over though.
"I'll have to rest here for the night....."

Aqua glared defiantly at Gamin, wishing they didn't have to go to Farlow under these circumstances. There was enough trouble with Inwe probably mouthing out on about how she disappeared in the middle of the night. Oh, I wish my cousin wasn't so bratty and annoying! She looked up at the stars through a small hole in the tent and crawled onto her bed where she drifted off into an obscure dream world.

******

The next morning Aqua stared around the clearing outside the tent. No one seemed to be up. She started to walk towards the stream to wash her face when she heard a rustle in the shrubs near the tent.

Lamine woke up to hear someone coming near her from the camp. She quickly got up but stumbled when pain seared up to her right hip.
"Oof!" That's right.....I've only got three legs now, she thought to herself.
She slowly got back up making sure she balanced herself while staying hidden in the leaves of the bushes she was behind. Lamine peered out to see who was there. To her surprise a girl was staring right her hiding place. Lamine studied the girl fearfully while listing the description given to her by Inwe, hoping that it was the princess.
Green hair....Jet-black eyes...this must be her!
Lamine warily limped out of the bushes to greet her.

Aqua jumped at the sight of the centaur and crouched into a fighting stance, her hand flying to the hilt of her katana. As she looked closer, she slightly recognized the creature.
"Lamine?" she asked.

"Princess! I hoped it would be you!"
Lamine limped closer to Aqua.
"Where have you been? Your cousin has been worried about you."
Seeing the look on Aqua's face after she mentioned Inwe, Lamine quickly added to what she said.
"She didn't tell anyone that you've gone missing, but you must already know that they'll find out soon enough."
Lamine looked around at where they stood.
"Why are you so close to the enemy’s border anyway?" she asked.

Aqua was shocked by the centaur's words.
"Did you not know?!"
Then she remembered she had left without telling anybody except Inwe. She took a deep breath and eased out in a low voice that she was spying for the Light.
Seeing the expression on Lamine's face she reassured her that she was fine.
"You need to get that leg healed before you set off anyways. Just don't get caught by anyone while you rest here."

Gamin woke up to find Aqua missing from the tent. Since Shanti was still asleep he decided that she must have woken up early to start training. Gamin dressed, woke up Shanti, and left the tent. The air outside was crisp and cool and Gamin could hear the stream that ran nearby the camp. Suddenly he heard Aqua's voice carried toward him by the wind. Hearing another voice he didn't recognize caused him to go rigid. He ran toward where he heard the two voices. He stopped when he saw Aqua talking to a centaur. The enemy! Gamin jumped out and landed on Lamine, pulling her head back by her hair and brought out one of his katanas, placing it inches from her neck.
“Aqua, you traitor! What are you doing conversing with the enemy?"

Surprised to see Gamin jump out of the reeds, Aqua whipped around and stepped away from Lamine. Forcing herself to stay calm, she sternly spoke to her group leader.
"Gamin, you have it all wrong. I found this creature resting here. I was only asking what it was doing here."
She silently signaled Lamine to play along, hoping Gamin wouldn’t notice.
"I didn't know you would be soo against me following the rules!" she said in a mocking voice.

Shanti heard Aqua's playful voice along with Gamin's angry one coming from the river.
"Oh, I hope Gamin didn't bump into Aqua bathing!" she sighed. "That would make him freak out!"

"Don't toy with me!"
Gamin growled angrily.
"I saw you talking to this thing as if you knew it!"
Lamine had almost fallen when the Dark soldier had landed on her. She shifted her front legs nervously.
"What are you talking abou-"
"Silence centaur!"
Gamin tightened his grip on her hair, pulling her head back and bringing the katana closer to her neck.
"What do you think you're doing here?"

Aqua's eyes widened as she saw Lamine struggling under Gamin's strength and weight. "Gamin, stop!"
Just then, Shanti ran out of the reeds. Her face turned white with shock as she saw Lamine standing under Gamin while he and Aqua fought. This can't be good, she thought.

Lamine continued to struggle under Gamin's weight. Her neck was beginning to ache with her head being pulled back and she was sweating.
"What are you doing here?" Gamin repeated.
He was becoming impatient and his blade nicked Lamine's neck, sending blood trickling down. Lamine began trembling, trying not to give anything away.
"N-nothing...." she breathed.
